First time mother’s can be nervous about breastfeeding, but once the pros and cons are weighed it really is the best choice for your new infant, and for you.

Breastfeeding provides many benefits to the infant as well as the new mom. If you have not decided to breastfeed your infant, please take a minute to look at the benefits breastfeeding provides for both of you.

Breastfeeding Pros for Mom

Breastfeeding saves you time. Your body makes what you need when you need it.

Breastfeeding is convenient. You don’t have to run to the kitchen each time you need to feed your infant.

Long term breastfeeding provides protection against some forms of cancer.

Breastfeeding saves you money. There’s no need to pay for formula, (have you seen how much it costs lately?) bottles and all the other accessories required by bottle feeding.

Breastfeeding allows you to get more rest. You will actually take a break when your baby needs to eat. This allows you to rest, bond with your baby, and take a much needed break.

Breastfeeding Benefits for Baby

Breastmilk is always available, and always the right temperature.

Breastmilk limits the possibilities of allergies, asthma and exzema.

Breastfed babies have a lower chance of being overweight adults.

Breast milk is absolutely perfect in its composition.  There are over 100 elements that scientists can not even identify, much less replicate. Breastmilk changes composition depending on the baby’s needs.

Breastfeeding promotes good jaw structure, and encourages good speech capabilities.

If you are a new mom and wondering if you can or should nurse your baby, realize this world is new for infants, your newborn baby has relied on your and your body for the last nine months and still needs you. Your milk is best.

Research shows breastfeeding your baby for even a few weeks has benefits.  The world health organization recommends breastfeeding for 2 years. Whether you feel you can breastfeed for two years or not, please consider giving your infant the gift of breastmilk for as long possibly can.
